Pere Manils, Abdelberi Chaabane, Stevens Le Blond, Mohamed Ali Kaafar, Claude Castelluccia, Arnaud Legout, Walid Dabbous ABSTRACT Privacy of users in P2P networks goes far beyond their current usage and is a fundamental requirement to the adoption of P2P protocols for legal usage. In a climate of cold war between these users and anti-piracy groups, more and more users are moving to anonymizing networks in an attempt to hide their identity. However, when not designed to protect users information, a P2P protocol would leak information that may compromise the identity of its users. In this paper, we first present three attacks targeting BitTorrent users on top of Tor that reveal their real IP addresses. In a second step, we analyze the Tor usage by BitTorrent users and compare it to its usage outside of Tor. Finally, we depict the risks induced by this de-anonymization and show that users’ privacy violation goes beyond BitTorrent traffic and contaminates other protocols such as HTTP.

14. 07. 2009 1/17 AVVISO LEGALE Le autorità dell aviazione civile degli Stati membri della Comunità europea sono abilitate a ispezionare soltanto i vettori aerei di compagnie che volano da/verso aeroporti comunitari; dato il carattere aleatorio di tali controlli, effettuati a caso, non è possibile esaminare tutti gli aeromobili che atterrano in ogni aeroporto comunitario. Che una compagnia aerea non figuri nell’elenco comunitario non significa quindi automaticamente che essa soddisfi i criteri di sicurezza vigenti. Qualora una compagnia aerea che invece figura nell elenco ritenga di ottemperare ai requisiti tecnici necessari prescritti dalle norme internazionali di sicurezza vigenti, può chiedere alla Commissione che venga avviata la procedura per ottenere la cancellazione dall elenco. 14. 07. 2009 1/16 LEGAL NOTICE The civil aviation authorities of Member States of the European Community are only able to inspect aircraft of airlines that operate flights to and from Community airports; and in view of the random nature of such inspections, it is not possible to check all aircraft that land at each Community airport. The fact that an airline is not included in the Community list does not, therefore, automatically mean that it meets the applicable safety standards. Where an airline which is currently included in the Community list deems itself to be in conformity with the necessary technical elements and requirements prescribed by the applicable international safety standards, it may request the Commission to commence the procedure for its removal from the list. 14. 07. 2009 1/17 AVISO LEGAL As autoridades de aviação civil dos Estados-Membros da Comunidade Europeia só poderão inspeccionar as aeronaves das companhias aéreas que efectuam voos de e para os aeroportos comunitários; face à natureza aleatória de tais inspecções, não é possível verificar todas as aeronaves que aterram em cada aeroporto comunitário. O facto de uma companhia aérea não estar incluída na lista comunitária não significa, deste modo, que cumpra as normas de segurança aplicáveis. Quando uma companhia aérea, que esteja actualmente incluída na lista comunitária, considerar que está em conformidade com os requisitos e elementos técnicos necessários estabelecidos nas normas de segurança internacionais aplicáveis, poderá solicitar à Comissão que inicie o procedimento para a sua remoção da lista. 14. 07. 2009 1/18 AVISO JURÍDICO Las autoridades competentes en materia de aviación civil de los Estados miembros de la Comunidad Europea sólo pueden inspeccionar las aeronaves de las compañías aéreas que operan vuelos con origen o destino en aeropuertos comunitarios; además, dado el carácter aleatorio de dichas inspecciones, resulta imposible comprobar todas las aeronaves que aterrizan en cada aeropuerto comunitarios. En consecuencia, el hecho de que una compañía aérea no aparezca en la lista comunitaria no supone automáticamente que cumpla las normas de seguridad aplicables. En caso de que una compañía aérea que aparece en la lista comunitaria considere que cumple las condiciones técnicas y los requisitos establecidos en las normas internacionales de seguridad aplicables, puede solicitar a la Comisión la apertura del proceso para ser excluida de la lista.
