Open Auditions for the Hottest Comedy Event in Fort Lauderdale The second annual Mardi Gras Comedy Challenge is about to kick off! This one of a kind Ft. Lauderdale event begins with Open Auditions on September 6th and 7th 2012. Hundreds of stand-up comedians from around the country will come out to strut their stuff and compete for the chance to open for Caroline Rhea and win $5K during our Grandstand Finale in November. Calling all Florida Comedians to Mardi Gras Casino Comedy Challenge The forty funniest contestants from the auditions will move on to the Showcase rounds. American Derby Stake Race Coming to Hollywood Greyhound Park This season Mardi Gras Casino is proud to announce the revival of a favorite stake race called The American Derby. The American Derby Stakes Race has been on hold for the last three years, but now will travel 1,500 miles south from its last home in Lincoln, Rhode Island at the Lincoln Greyhound Park to our very own world class Hollywood Greyhound Track and resume the tradition. On May 1st we will begin collecting items needed by our soldiers for care packages. When guests come out to Mardi Gras Casino they can donate four items on our list for the care packages and then receive $5 in bonus play once per day, all month long. There is also a “Points for Postage” promotion where guests can donate their Krewe Club points at the Players’ Club to the Treats for Soldiers organization who will pay for the shipment of care packages. This wasn’t just any tournament; three WQAM hosts were enlisting players to help win money for their charity. Don’t let the work “charity” fool you, this was a real tournament hosted at Mardi Gras Casino with a big prize pool. $90 of the $100 buy in went to the prize pool and there was an optional $20 add on for the winning charity. WQAM hosts, Joe Rose, Sid Rosenberg, and Channing Crowder spent the past month recruiting players through their radio shows. As players arrived they picked their team and got a shirt with their team name. Team Rose was the most represented and a member of Joe’s team won $1,120 to go to a charity of Joe’s choice.
