1965 under the Maharashtra Secondary Boards Act and Maharashtra State Secondary board was
established on 1st January 1966, for the regulation of some matters related to secondary education in
the state of Maharashtra.
Maharashtra Secondary Boards Act was amended in the year 1977 and its
name was changed to current name that is “Maharashtra state board of secondary and higher
secondary education “.
The first and foremost duty of “Maharashtra state board of secondary and higher secondary education”
is to conduct the Senior Secondary Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC)
Examinations in the state of Maharashtra.
