l The August conflict over the territory of South Ossetia
resulted in the displacement of 134,000 individuals, of
whom some 102,800 had returned by the end of
November.
That left some 21,000 new internally
displaced persons (IDPs) in need of humanitarian
assistance.
UNHCR provided the displaced with
emergency aid, such as non-food items, and helped them
cope with the winter.

protracteddisplacementwithinGeorgiasincetheearly1990s.
