have dreaded this day since i was a little boy.
My mom, ernestine eugenia newberry, died at 12:03 a.m. on august 31, the same
day we went to press with this amazing edition of Texas Links. she was 87.
she is survived by four sons and a daughter, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. she was preceeded in death by her daughter, shirley, and husband, henry c. newberry.
Mom never had a life of her own. like the old gospel song, her life was a daily verse of
None of Self and All of Thee. her life was not about herself. it was about creating a life for
her children and taking care of those around her.
in our family, she knew her role and loved it. her job was to run the household while
dad held down two jobs. The things she did in life never showed up in the box score. she
just created a winning environment so we could win, and she lived vicariously t
