ordan Spieth continues to astound.
By now everyone knows about his meteoric rise from a
no-status rookie ranked 804th in the world to his perch as
the youngest PGA Tour winner since 1931 and a Presidents Cup
captain’s pick. It all happened in 10 months but probably felt
like the blink of an eye.
Playing on sponsor’s exemptions, he finished second at the
Puerto Rico Open last March to win $308,000. A week later he
holed out a flop shot for birdie on the 71st hole and drained a
six-foot par putt on the last hole at the Tampa Bay Championship
to share a piece of seventh place. That check for $148,893 earned
him enough money to gain Special Temporary Status on the PGA
Tour for year.
He finally had a little job security, which is nice. From there,
the two-time U.S. Junior Amateur champion from Dallas who led
the University of Texas to a 2012 national championship went on to
