Deepwater Horizon Settlement Objects Assigned to special Docket
U.
S.
District Judge Carl Barbier, who is overseeing the Deepwater Horizon settlement, has
set aside a separate legal docket specifically for those businesses and individuals who are
filing objections to the preliminary settlement agreement established between BP and a
class action representing individuals and businesses that were damaged in the BP oil spill of
April 2010.
That original settlement was specifically established for those who suffered
economic damages or physical injuries as a result of the spill, and clearly delineates those
who are eligible to file a claim.
The amount of that settlement is expected to reach
approximately $7.
8 billion dollars, though no limit has been established.
It is being
administered through a new claims process that allows those who had originally been
rejected for injury claims as well as any business claims that were rejected to refile and
receive compensation.
